Canteen & Noon Meal

The canteen is primarily responsible for serving nutritious and hygienic food to the students and staffs. It serves breakfast and meals to the students in the campus. The Canteen is open on working days from 6.30am to 4pm. Only one common eating facility (canteen facility) shall be provided in the campus for the students and staffs of the College. Canteen can provide food facilities for all the college programs like seminars, workshops, Christmas celebration, Teachers day, etc. The management is fully committed to keeping the quality of the canteen for the utmost benefit of all concerned. The college canteen plays an important role in this regard by catering the daily requirements of students and staff members.As many students come from long distances, it is essential for the students to have nutritious food and refreshments at affordable prices so as to participate in the daily academic activities actively.

Vision

To facilitate hygienic and nutritious food at reasonably priced merchandise and services essential to their comfort and well-being. One of the main visions of the mid-day meal scheme is that learners get low cost or free cost lunch and help them avoid hunger or starvation. New student’s enrolment and late comers to college is more important and mid-day meals scheme can motivate the students continue their studies with proper time. Some of the students can be prone to hunger in the classroom. Without food, they will not have the energy to concentrate their studies. The classroom hunger of students and parentless students will be suited for by mid day meals scheme, those students will be able to focus their studies without food problem.

Mission

The students, who come from faraway places, start their journey to the College early in the morning and the students who are very poor are the eligible for canteen and noon meal scheme. The parentless students also eligible for free or low cost mid-day meal. The management of Don Bosco College can provide free or low cost food under these category students. Even many day-scholars use canteen facilities for their breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Objectives

Owing to very personal reasons like the distance from the college, some of the students are not in a position to bring their breakfast or mid-day meal every day. The college has instituted the Free Mid-Day Meal Programme for some of the selected students who can enrol their name at the department mid-day meal committee incharge for midday meals.

The objective of the Canteen and meal service is to protect by reducing the risk of food borne illness, with proper sanitary conditions, and preventing adulterated food. From the very beginning of the College in 2007, the College Canteen has been functioning efficiently. The Canteen is located inside the College campus. The day scholars are provided meals by assuring food safety and quality. The Management of the Canteen is directly under the control of the College Administration. The Contractor of the Canteen is selected according to the available and suitable quotations. A well-experienced person in food services management, his team is managing the College canteen. Both students and staff of the College are benefited by its service. The management is fully committed to keeping the quality of the canteen for the utmost benefit of all concerned.

The menu is planned by the assigned Canteen Committee and instructions are given to the Contractor.The periodical meetings are conducted with the Contractor by the committee in order to appraise the function of the Canteen. Liberalization of food trade, growing consumer demand, physical set up, and sanitary conditions are also discussed during the appraisal.Also, suggestions, complaints and problems of the food consumers are taken into consideration.
