Department of Commerce

 

History

The Department of Commerce was started in the year 2007, for offering a three-year B.Com. (C.A.) degree course with the motive of inculcating professional ethics and competency in business and management. The B.Com. course has been offered since 2008. The Postgraduate course (M.Com.) was started in 2011. The Department started a full-time M.Phil. course in 2014 and Ph.D course started in 2022 to cater to the need of scholars in pursuit of research.

So far five National Seminars have been conducted on socially relevant themes. The department is the pioneer in the district in introducing courses on business ethics, computer languages and applications and accounting software. The department has the distinction of introducing courses for holistic development of individuals with social thrust. The department prepares students to pursue professional courses such as CPT, CMA, CA, ICWAI and ACS through feeder courses. The Department takes pride in educating persons with disabilities every year, and conducts special skills development programmes for them. 

The students of Commerce conveniently use the Department Library shelved with very recent books in many fields of Commerce, Economics, Accountancy and Management. The department has been using new strategies for advanced learning such as instructional strategy, additional assignment of responsibility, providing access to professional learning careers. The curriculum is updated according to the changing environment in industry, business world, and commerce and management through board of studies with eminent members.

  • To inculcate training and practical approach by using modern technology among students in the field of accounting and finance,
  • To give adequate exposure to the operational environment in the field of accounting finance,
  • To improve knowledge in commerce to all students enrolled under commerce faculty,
  • To help learners to develop their employability and sharpen the skills,
  • To groom the personality traits of the commerce students,
  • To enable student to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situation through necessary training, and
  • To identify student with research aptitude and build research abilities in them.
